The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne EPFL is beautifully located on the shores of Geneva lake. You can find some interesting information about EPFL’s history here.
The meeting will take place in the south part of the EPFL campus, in the BC building.
Lausanne is a very pretty and dynamic city established on 3 hills which allows magnificent views on the lake and the Alps while wondering around the streets. Please visit the Lausanne Tourisme website to find some recommendations on things to do. The population is very international: 42% of the total 150’000 citizens in Lausanne is foreigners.
Catering will be provided for in-person participants.
A video link will be sent to registered participants the day prior to the event, for online access to the meeting.
Locations during the meeting will be published in the schedule that will be available closer to the meeting date.
Welcome Event
SCITAS will provide a BBQ on the first evening: a casual BYOB and BBQ under the arches of the Rolex Learning Centre. Food will be provided by SCITAS.

Getting here
Important: Participants are requested to manage their own travel bookings. Information on travelling to Switzerland, including visa requirements, can be found at this link: Information for Entry to Switzerland.

The nearest airport to Lausanne is Geneva (GVA) Airport which is 51.4 km away. Taxis, vehicle hire and public transport options are available at the airport and to help you get around town. Taxis can be very expensive.
If you are staying in a hotel, ask for the Lausanne Transport Card, which entitles you to use public transport for free during your stay.
Accommodation
A block booking of 88 rooms has been made at the Starling Hotel (located at the EPFL campus) at a special conference rate:
- 50 Business Rooms:
- Single Use: CHF 170 per room per night
- Double Use: CHF 205 per room per night
- 38 Superior Rooms:
- Single Use: CHF 195 per room per night
- Double Use: CHF 230 per room per night
- Included: Breakfast, access to fitness, parking, and WIFI.
- Excluded: Local tax of CHF 6 per person per night.
- Reservation Guarantee: Each participant can book a room and guarantee the reservation with their credit card.
Block Reservation Deadline: The block reservation will remain open until 14th of June, 2024. After that date, guests can make their reservations by contacting the hotel directly and rooms will be booked based on their availability.

Things to do
August is a great time to visit Lausanne. The weather is usually mildly cool, humid but cool, with temperatures ranging from 13-23°C (55-73°F). Note that sunset is at approximately 8:30pm.
There are plenty of events to check out and activities to try in Lausanne during this time, such as visiting the Olympic Museum and the Musée de l'Elysée or hiking the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces.
